Background: Q&A
What IS the “KylesHill” name?
I get asked that a lot. KylesHill School is located in the town of Saltcoats Scotland. It is where my grandfather, Archibald Davidson, attended school. When he graduated, he received the Dux Boy award, given to the top male student in the class. According to family lore, for his effort he received a hearty pat on the back then promptly went off to the shipyards to work. But the following year, a scholarship was instituted for the award that would have paid for his secondary education. Time passed and he eventually made his way to America, married, raised a family and built a great life. But education remained extremely important to him. Our clients have a wide variety of financial goals in their lifetime, including education funding. His story is my reminder of the importance of planning for education, and for all of life’s other events and milestones.
Why Hire a Personal Financial Planner?
Most people are not financial experts. Yet increasingly, individuals are in charge of their own financial futures. Most are aware that planning is critical, yet don't have the time or the expertise to develop a plan and make the needed financial decisions.
Maybe you consulted with a financial advisor in the past...perhaps you felt you were being asked to buy something you didn't fully understand. Maybe you felt that products were recommended without consideration for your overall financial situation. Comprehensive, holistic, fee-only financial planning eliminates these concerns. You receive objective advice targeted to your needs and goals.
How often do we need to update our plan?
A personal financial plan is meant to be a living document or roadmap for your financial future. According to our planning process, initially we will meet every month or two for the first year or so, to allow us to gather all the necessary information, discuss your goals, review tax and cash flow planning, long term planning for education and retirement funding, investment strategy discussion and planning, and estate and disability planning. Once this phase of the process is complete, we will generally meet on a quarterly basis to update the plan for any planned life changes (home purchase, expected child, wedding, etc.) review investment allocations, and reassess the expected plan outcomes.
Keep in mind that there are no hourly charges to worry about, so you can feel free to call or email us for advice or information and clarification any time and as often as you wish for more sudden unexpected life changes (change of job, inheritance, disability, etc).
